One prompt, two takes: which one would you keep?
You never get just one song. Each request comes back as two takes with the same lyrics and a different melody, tempo feel and arrangement. Both land in your library, so you pick the one that fits and throw the other away.

What a song costs in each credit pack
A song is 12 credits, and that buys both takes. Divide a pack by 12 and you know how many songs are in it.

The cover art still can't spell
Look at the welcome mat in the original cover of our example: it says "WELCMAN". The second take's cover spelled it "WEILCNAE". Two covers, two garbled mats, so we cropped the text off for this page. If the words on your cover matter, make that cover yourself.
Two more things to know before you spend credits. A take that misses costs the full 12 credits again, because both takes come as one request. And the vocal gender setting nudges the model, it doesn't force it.
Lyrics, length and instrumentals
Can I use my own lyrics?
Yes. Turn on detailed controls, paste your lyrics (up to 5,000 characters), and set the title and style yourself. The generator sings your words and only adds melody and arrangement.
How long is a generated song?
Suno V5.5 lets you set the length in seconds. Suno V4.5+ goes up to 8 minutes and Suno V4 up to 4 minutes. Our example takes came out at 2:45 and 2:56 with automatic length.
Can I make an instrumental without vocals?
Yes. Switch on Instrumental (no vocals) before you create. It costs the same 12 credits and still gives you two takes. For music under a video, the AI background music page shows what works.
What happens if neither take is right?
You run it again for another 12 credits, or keep the better take and fix one part: replacing a section costs 6 credits and extending a track costs 12.
